Continuing Education
In order to keep current with issues that relate to the volunteer role, our volunteers are required to complete 12 hours of continuing education per year. For new volunteers, continuing education hours are prorated by the percentage of the year the advocate was a volunteer. The requirement applies to all volunteers who have been sworn and not discharged, regardless of whether they are assigned to a case.

Child Sexual Exploitation and Abuse
Kansas CASA Association, Inc. is partnering with the Department of Homeland Security's Know2Protect campaign again this year to host a free virtual training on the growing threat of online child sexual exploitation and abuse. This session will cover practical tools and strategies to recognize, prevent and respond to online exploitation.

Every Adult's Guide: Preventing, Recognizing and Responding to Child Sexual Abuse
Join Kristi House in this training that that is designed for parents, caregivers, and adults who would like to be better equipped to prevent child sexual abuse. This class covers signs and symptoms, provides an understanding of the dynamics of sexual abuse—particularly the manipulative behavior of perpetrators—and offers techniques to support open communication with children to prevent victimization.

Not a number: Traffic Prevention Training for Parents
Love146's "#NotANumber" is a program providing resources for parents and caregivers to help youth avoid child trafficking, teaching them about risks, recruitment tactics, healthy relationships, online safety, and how to recognize and report exploitation, with specific guides and materials to support parents in having open conversations and creating safe environments, connecting youth with help when needed.

Sextortion: What Parents Should Know
This live training helps parents understand what sextortion is, how predators target children and teens online, and what warning signs to watch for at home. Participants will learn concrete steps to reduce risk, how to talk with kids about online safety without shame or fear, and what to do if their child is pressured, blackmailed, or victimized. The session will also cover how to report sextortion and connect with support resources if a family is affected.

Children and Problematic Sexual Behavior
Both boys and girls might display sexual behavior problems without sexual abuse victimization being the underlying cause. Recognizing sexual behavior problems versus normal sexual development is important, as is knowing how to respond. Research suggests a quarter to half of child sexual abuse involves children acting out on other children, with the behavior impelled by exposure to pornography, domestic violence and other inappropriate sexualized situations.
