Continuing Education

In order to keep current with issues that relate to the volunteer role, our volunteers are required to complete 12 hours of continuing education per year. For new volunteers, continuing education hours are prorated by the percentage of the year the advocate was a volunteer. The requirement applies to all volunteers who have been sworn and not discharged, regardless of whether they are assigned to a case.

Suicide - Project HeadSTRONG Series

Join Kristi House in this series that offers learners targeted exercises to build skills in managing a mental health disorder. The topics of Trauma & PTSD, Anxiety Disorders, Suicide, Depressive Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, and ADHD are divided into sections, exercises, videos, and video discussion questions.

The Price of Love: Keeping Relationships Safe & Financially Healthy

The Price of Love: Keeping Relationships Safe & Financially Healthy is a powerful and practical webinar designed to shed light on the often-overlooked issue of financial abuse in teen relationships. This session will explore how money, resources, and economic control can be used as tools of manipulation, and why these red flags are just as damaging as other forms of abuse. Participants will learn how to recognize early warning signs, understand the emotional and financial impact on teens, and gain insight into how unhealthy financial dynamics can escalate over time.

What Every Adult Needs to Know About Sexual Abuse

This training is designed for parents, caregivers, and adults who would like to be better equipped to prevent child sexual abuse. This class covers signs and symptoms, provides an understanding of the dynamics of sexual abuse — particularly the manipulative behavior of perpetrators — and offers techniques to support open communication with children to prevent victimization.

Core Curriculum on Childhood Trauma Training

The Core Curriculum on Childhood Trauma (CCCT), developed by the UCLA-Duke National Center for Child Traumatic Stress, is an experiential learning tool designed to raise the standard of care for youth and families affected by trauma. Through interactive, small-group case studies, the CCCT helps care providers build trauma-informed knowledge and critical decision-making skills.

Grooming: The Manipulation of Children, Families, and Communities

This training is designed to raise awareness about the deceptive tactics of sexual grooming, an intentional process used to sexually abuse children while avoiding detection. Attendees will leave with an increased knowledge of the psychological and emotional impact on children and the tools to recognize and respond to grooming in various contexts.

Human Trafficking 101 

This workshop provides a basic overview of Human Trafficking, the extent of the problem and the impact this type of trauma has on children. It will also include tips for identifying and engaging victims and discussion of services victim's need for healing and reintegration into mainstream society.
